Over the last eleven years, while serving as the pastor of First Baptist Church of Holly, I have had the privilege of working with a group of dedicated volunteers who want to help seniors, living in The Village of Holly, Holly, Rose, Groveland, and Springfield Townships, live in their homes with comfort and safety. Local Businesses, Churches, and Civic Groups, have helped with financial resources and people power to make the last Saturday in April a workday for seniors. Now that I have retired from full time ministry I am looking forward to spending more time reaching out to those seniors who need help at home. The added befit of this service is meeting so many wonderful people who care about their neighbors.

I started working with Christmas in Action as a volunteer on work day in April 2004. There were over 50 volunteers from the local community coming together to improve the quality of life for this woman and the gratitude on her face was satisfying, to say the least. . After taking part in the substantial project to repairing the home of this particular senior citizen, I knew this was a group in which I would like to play a larger roll. I live in Holly with my wife and three daughters, all of whom are very active in CIA.

I had volunteered with Christmas in Action for several years in the Pontiac Area and one day while working on a house, I asked my friend and pastor, Ed Pedley, why we couldn’t help seniors in our own community. That question led us to several community meetings, some research and some asking others for help to form what is now Christmas in Action of Holly. Over the past 10 years, we have been able to work on 31 of our seniors homes with the very generous giving of our volunteers and donors in Holly. I strongly believe that volunteerism is what makes us what we are, in our churches, our schools and in our communities. We need each other at some point in our lives. I am very thankful for the blessings I have received and I want to share those blessings with others. I have met so many wonderful people in this experience and I look forward to working with them each year.

I became involved with Christmas in Action in 2007 as a volunteer, in response to Marie's email request, then decided to join the board as the rewards were addicting. Out of all the non-profit organizations that I've worked with over the years this is by far the most fun. I look forward each year to working with the members of the board and seeing all the new and returning volunteers that have dedicated their time and passion for such a great cause.

I am a mother of 3 and wife of a local business owner. I have found that giving back in life is what makes our world a better place. Christmas In Action gives me the chance to do this on a nationwide level BUT in my own "backyard". Teaching my children how to be productive responsible citizens in our community and sharing Christmas In Action of Holly with the public is not just rewarding to me on each workday but every day that I am able to be a part of such a wonderful group of people.
